Did I ruin my camcorder lens?

I found a camcorder (Canon XR70 mini dv) and It works fine, but the pictures( I can see the intro with Canon in blue and all that crap) don't work like I can not see through the hole. And I can't see on the screen. There are some fingerprints on the lens I think that's why but I don't know. How can I fix it. Please help me!!!
