Can a case be dropped if the person charging doesn't show up?

assuming the prosecution brings the boy as a witness, possibly the only witness if he doesnt show he is in contempt of court. This boy is obviously an idiot. If he does show he'll have to tell the truth or face contempt charges or if he lies perjury.
